Obituaries, oracles, and kale

I'm not sure what's going on with the astrology right now, but I'm being bombarded with ideas and am enjoying a surge of creative energy. (Not complaining.)

Or maybe it's the kale. 🥬

I've had a giant kale salad for lunch every single day this week.

Today I added bacon. 🥓

It was a 10/10 salad. Kale'd it. (If you want the recipe, hit reply!)

Anyway. Moving on.

I have things to share with you today:

News Item #1: Brand Vibe Check 🔥

I just finished creating a new quiz. Like *just* finished. It hasn't even made it to my website yet. Maybe you're reading this because you took the quiz and subscribed to my email list. #winning

If you haven't taken the quiz, it will tell you which of the five brand vibes you're giving.

You can find the quiz here.

News Item #2: Living Obituary Service 💞

A client has hired me to write obituaries for her and her husband and parents in an effort to declutter her death.

She doesn't want her family to have to deal with the task when she dies, and she knows she won't be in a state to write obituaries for her parents when she's grieving them.

I loved that idea so much, and I want to let more people know that this is something I do.

It's a great honour to be asked to write an obituary. Death is one of the few things in life that I take very seriously.

I shared this idea on Facebook yesterday and got lots of positive feedback. This morning, before I sat down to work, I felt the urge to pull an oracle card.

When I shuffled the deck, two cards fell out:

Whether you're woo or woo woo or no thank woo, you can see why I took this as a clear sign that I'm on to something here.

News Item #3: Book Club Meets On Tuesday 🤓

That's a pretty self-explanatory heading, but ICYMI, my friend slash colleague ShannaRae and I have started a book club for brand nerds.

This month, we're reading The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding by Al Ries and Laura Ries.

We'll be meeting on Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:00 pm (Eastern) via Zoom to chat about it.

Click here to learn more and/or join us.

That's all I've got for today, Reader.

Take good care,

xo JL

Seriously, though. You are a treasure. You're so rare that one day every single year, people literally gather with gifts to sing and eat cake in your honour. A whole 24-hour celebration just because you exist and the world is better for it. I don't know how you manage to stay so humble while you're out there changing people's lives by being you. Walking around all unassuming. Just stardust wrapped in a meat suit, making all kinds of impact just by breathing. Like it's no big deal. You're...

Well I've finally decided to take my own advice. For years I've been telling my clients anyone who will listen how important it is to focus on one audience and one idea. But that rule didn't apply to me, I guess. In classic do as I say but not as I do style, I've been plodding along, trying to connect with people wanting help writing books, businesses needing brand strategy or copywriting, and basically anyone looking for help promoting things. It finally hit me one day while I was zenned out...

A couple weeks ago I cried because my feet are too big and I couldn't figure out how to write my own website copy. I don't know if it's the astrology, the state of the world, or perimenopause, but I've been in a funk lately, and I know I'm not the only one. Many of my self-employed friends have been feeling the same way, so I thought I'd check in to see how you're doing... Are you feeling funky? Or blocked? Not happy with the results you've been getting? Sick of doing things the same way you...
