One day I'll hire you!

Jason's waiting in the car.

We're about to hit the road to visit his side of the family.

While I'm buckling my seatbelt, he smiles and says:

"I just saw you the way you see yourself."

Before I can ask what he means, he explains:

"You can only see yourself reflected through a mirror. I was watching you through the rearview mirror, and I was seeing you the way you see yourself."

It's interesting, isn't it?

How we journey through life, without ever really being able to see ourselves the way others do.

And I don't only mean physically.

People have all sorts of thoughts and ideas and stories about us.

Can you really trust anything anybody tells you about someone?

Because that's just an opinion being filtered through one single lens.

Anyway, this is getting deeper than I'd anticipated.

The reason I'm sharing the rearview mirror story is because I think there's an assumption floating around about me.

Specifically, that it's impossible to get on my schedule... if a person could "ever afford me."

It's true that I spent a few years burning myself out, all caught up in the hustle. I was overwhelmed and buried in work.

I was biting off more than I could chew and taking every project that came along, out of fear that work would dry up and that I had to wear my Busy Badge all the time in order to prove that I was worthy. (Worthy of what, I'm not sure.)

But those days are behind me. They're in my rearview mirror, if you will.

Today I'm grounded, rested, and I know that I have a valuable set of gifts to share with people who appreciate them. (← that's the qualifier.)

I've figured out how to structure my business so that it supports my life (not the other way around).

This is important because I've also learned that taking good care of myself is the best way for me to take good care of my family/clients/gecko/orchid/sourdough starter/etc.

I'm no longer "too busy" for new projects, because I have control over my schedule and only work on things that make me happy. (And when I run out of spots, that's what waitlists are for.)

Plus, you guys, I'm not charging millions of dollars.

If you're one of those people who says:

"One day I'll hire JL to write my _____ !" ... do you realize that I could literally write your _______ in one day, for $3,000?

I mean, depending on the _______ it might take a handful of days, but we're not exactly talking about a six-figure fantasy investment here.

As of this moment, I have one day available next week, and a handful of others during the month of April.

Maybe that "one day I'll hire JL" could become "I'm JL's feature creature (that's what I call my VIP Day clients as of two seconds ago) of the day next Wednesday!"

Because I happen to be available.

If you'd like to chat about your _______, click here to book a clarity call, or just hit the reply button and we'll make it so.

Seriously, though. You are a treasure. You're so rare that one day every single year, people literally gather with gifts to sing and eat cake in your honour. A whole 24-hour celebration just because you exist and the world is better for it. I don't know how you manage to stay so humble while you're out there changing people's lives by being you. Walking around all unassuming. Just stardust wrapped in a meat suit, making all kinds of impact just by breathing. Like it's no big deal. You're...

Well I've finally decided to take my own advice. For years I've been telling my clients anyone who will listen how important it is to focus on one audience and one idea. But that rule didn't apply to me, I guess. In classic do as I say but not as I do style, I've been plodding along, trying to connect with people wanting help writing books, businesses needing brand strategy or copywriting, and basically anyone looking for help promoting things. It finally hit me one day while I was zenned out...

A couple weeks ago I cried because my feet are too big and I couldn't figure out how to write my own website copy. I don't know if it's the astrology, the state of the world, or perimenopause, but I've been in a funk lately, and I know I'm not the only one. Many of my self-employed friends have been feeling the same way, so I thought I'd check in to see how you're doing... Are you feeling funky? Or blocked? Not happy with the results you've been getting? Sick of doing things the same way you...
